AGM 2014 – Looking back and moving forward.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

Thanks to the Ottawa Art Gallery, we were treated to the inspiring surroundings of the Firestone Gallery here at Arts Court.  Held on June 17, the AGM was an opportunity to reflect on the past year, to acknowledge our supporters and make fresh announcements.  A new name was adopted as was a revised Mission and Objectives for the organization.  We will transition to be called the Ottawa Arts Council and a new website will be launched by the fall.

We welcomed two new Directors to the Board.  Joining us is Stefani Truant with a background in music and Ashley Proulx who has a theatre background.  Leaving us is Geneviève Coullard and our beloved President Tom Pierson.  Tom has been with the Council for seven years but has been lured away to Toronto with fresh opportunities.  We thank both of them for their years of dedication and contributions to our organization.  Our previous VP, Julia Johnston, will bring her infectious enthusiasm to the position of Board Chair.

The AGM was also the opportunity for the announcement of the recipients of the Corel Endowment of the Arts Award for 2014.  The jury chose two recipients this year artist Eric Julien (Von Allan) and composer Elise Letourneau.  Both spoke passionately about their projects and we look forward to giving our members future updates of their work.
