The Ottawa Arts Council Announces 2017 Awards Finalists

Finalists for the RBC Emerging Artist Award and Ottawa Arts Council Mid-Career Artist Award were announced at an intimate reception at Arts Court on March 30th, 2017.

The RBC Emerging Artist Award was established to encourage the achievements of Ottawa artists who are founding careers in the arts, and are working towards becoming recognized professional artists while engaging with the community. RBC Royal Bank is the title sponsor of this award.

This year’s RBC Emerging Artist Award finalists are:

  • Olivia Johnston — Photography
  • Gillian King — Visual Arts
  • Catherine Voyer-Léger — Literary Arts

The Ottawa Arts Council Mid-Career Artist Award was established ten years ago to provide support and encourage artists who have advanced beyond the emerging stage of their careers. This award is sponsored by GGFL Chartered Professional Accountants, and Mann Lawyers, LLP.

The Ottawa Arts Council Mid-Career Artist Award finalists are:

  • Maura Doyle — Visual Arts
  • Jesse Stewart — Interdisciplinary Arts
  • Andrew Wright — Visual Arts

The Ottawa Arts Council would like to thank RBC Royal Bank, RBC Foundation, Mann Lawyers LLP, GGFL Chartered Professional Accountants, Ian Capstick and Shawn Dearn, and the City of Ottawa for their support of the Ottawa Arts Council Awards Program.

The awards recipients will be announced at the Arts Awards Presentation on Tuesday, May 9th in the Arts Court Theatre. The recipient in each category will be awarded $5,000 and the finalists will each receive $1,000.
