Emerging Creators Unit

The Emerging Creators Unit is BACK! That’s right - beginning in February, the Acting Co. will be once again hosting the Emerging Creators UnitAs in past years, our goal is to nurture new writers and foster the creation of theatre in Ottawa. New this year – due to gracious support from the City of Ottawa - we’re thrilled to be able to offer a workshop budget for all projects involved in the unit

Six artists or collective of artists who define themselves as "emerging" (we're flexible on the definition) will have the opportunity to develop a new project with the guidance of session coordinator and dramaturg, Catherine Ballachey, and Assistant Dramaturg, Matt Hertendy.

The six artists will meet six times between January and April to work with the dramaturgical team and to operate as a support group, supplying feedback on each other's work. This is a great opportunity for Fringe Festival creators or artists producing independently to receive FREE dramaturgical help

The work will culminate in a reading with actors and an outside director, which will be open to the public. This will be an excellent chance to hear your work read out loud with fresh eyes and perspectives.

There is no cost to participate in this project. In fact, each project will be provided with a workshop budget.  However, participants must be present for all 6 sessions and the final workshop.

Meeting Dates:
Sunday nights (6 - 9 PM) starting February 17th and meeting March 3rd, March 17th, March 31st, April 14th, and April 28th.

Workshop and Reading:
Sunday, May 5th

Who can apply?
Writers planning to produce a new script or project independently or on the Fringe circuit (especially at the 2019 Ottawa Fringe) and who define themselves as "emerging".

What level of experience are you looking for?
All sorts! This is ideal for people planning to produce independently or for Fringe Festivals in the next year.

Is there a cost?
Heck no! We know all about the financial burden of self-producing, so we're working to keep this program at no cost to you! Actually, we want to pay you for the reading, so that’s a plus!

How do I apply?
Please send a short sample of your work and a letter of intent (maximum 500 words) to the Emerging Creators Unit: emergingcreatorsunit@gmail.com. Deadline to submit is Friday, February 1st.

The letter should tell us a bit about you, your project, and why you would like to participate in the program
