Tax Workshop Provides Much Food for Thought

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

The words ‘income tax’ can strike fear in even the most organized person’s heart. Luckily, our friends at GGFL Chartered Professional Accountants were here to help.

Our facilitators, Carol DeMone and Wendy Wong, highly experienced tax experts, took us through the specific and variable concerns that professional artists need to consider when filing their income tax and dealing with GST/HST.

Presented in partnership with our friends at the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition (OMIC), the workshop was a great success and our audience members walked away with some valuable information, not just for this tax filing, but in preparation for the next one, too.

Carol explored the particulars of tracking and claiming multiple income sources, understanding and claiming deductible expenses, as well as some resources to make the whole process easier.

Wendy discussed what GST/HST is, whether or not it is necessary to register for a GST/HST business number (BN), what rate to charge and just what an input tax credit (ITC) is.
