Victor Tolgesy Award Recipient Announcement 2019

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, the Ottawa Arts Council will honour Alexandra Badzak with the Victor Tolgesy Arts Award, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Ottawa arts community.

Alexandra Badzak is the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa Art Gallery where she led the charge on a major gallery expansion project in the downtown core. She recently sat as Chair of the Ottawa Museum Network Board of Directors and was a member of the National Historic Sites Alliance of Ontario Steering Committee. She is currently a member of CAMDO (the Canadian Art Museum Directors’ Organization) and was one of the 13 member Arts and Heritage Steering Committee charged with renewing the City of Ottawa’s 20/20 cultural plan. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa and a Board member of the Downtown Rideau Business Improvement District.

The Victor Tolgesy Arts Award was inaugurated in 1987 by the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Arts Council, in honour of the late Ottawa artist. The award recognizes the accomplishments of residents who have contributed substantially to enriching cultural life in our city. Recipients of the award receive a bronze casting special edition version of the late Victor Tolgesy’s 1963 sculpture entitled “Seed and Flower”, provided by the City of Ottawa. The cash award is provided by the Ottawa Arts Council.
