The seven Ottawa Arts Council Awards recognize the accomplishments of artists, individuals, and businesses who support the Ottawa arts community. Which award is right for you, or your nominee?

The Awards

Victor Tolgesy Arts Award

Presented in partnership with the City of Ottawa, this award recognizes the accomplishments of residents who have contributed substantially to enriching cultural life in the city.

The award recipient receives a bronze cast of Victor Tolgesy’s 1963 sculpture titled “Seed and Flower” provided by the City of Ottawa as well as a cash prize of $5,000.

Peter Honeywell Mid-Career Artist Award

Renamed in 2019 to honour the legacy of the long-time Council Executive Director, this award was established to recognize and encourage the achievements of Ottawa artists of all disciplines who have evolved beyond the emerging stage in their career to become recognized professional working artists contributing to the community.

This award, sponsored by GGFL Chartered Professional Accountants and Mann Lawyers LLP, presents a prize of $5,000 to the recipient and $1,000 to the two other finalists.

RBC Emerging Artist Award

This award was established to recognize and encourage the achievements of Ottawa artists who are in the early stages of their career in the arts and are working towards becoming recognized professional artists, while engaging with the community.

This award, sponsored by RBC, presents a prize of $5,000 to the recipient and $1,000 to the two other finalists.

Business and the Arts Recognition Award

The Business and the Arts Recognition Award was initiated in 1994 to recognize and encourage support from Ottawa’s business community to the local arts sector. Nominators are asked to submit a letter outlining the business’s involvement in the local cultural community, and how they have helped to support Ottawa’s artistic community.

Corel Endowment Fund for the Arts Award

This award champions projects that celebrate the integration of technology and the arts.The award supports projects with the potential to significantly advance the artist’s art practice or have an impact on the community.

Available to individual artists as well as arts collectives and groups, the prize varies according to the endowment’s dividends, which is typically in the range of $1,750 to $2,250.

Project X, Photography Award

Presented in partnership with SPAO Centre - School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa, this award recognizes the merits of a publicly presented photographic project by an Ottawa-based artist.

The recipient will receive a presenting opportunity at a prominent local venue as well as a prize valued at $2,000—a $1,000 honourarium and a $1,000 bursary towards SPAO classes or residency program.

Young Artist Award

Sponsored by the Artists & Artisans Study Group, this project-based, mentorship-driven youth arts award recognizes and encourages young Ottawa-based artists of all disciplines, aged 14 – 17 years.

The award recipients receive $500 in support of the creation and presentation of their proposed arts project, in addition, to the mentorship of an established Ottawa-based artist working in the same field.
