Evolution Theatre's 10-Minute Playwriting Competition

Evolution Theatre is proud to shoulder the mantle of the 10-Minute Play Festival, successfully presented from 2012 to 2016 by New Theatre of Ottawa.

Evolution’s 10 Minute Play Festival will feature a selection of transformative plays by evolving playwrights and those who have already scaled the heights of artistic maturity.

The rules of this Darwinian process are as follows:

  • The play may be on any subject
  • The play, when performed, must be no longer than 10 minutes, and no shorter than 8 minutes
  • The play must be an original work that has not been previously produced by any other 10-minute play competition
  • It may be an adaptation of an existing work. (Copyright on any adapted material is the playwright’s responsibility.)
  • The play can be performed by between 1 and 5 actors
  • There is no restriction on style of play however, be advised that production aesthetics will be minimal  
  • Plays may be written in English or French.

The deadline for entries is: March 31, 2018.

What is the selection process?

Evolution Theatre has a reading committee of theatre artists and dramaturges who will review all submissions.

If your play is chosen you receive:

  • A public presentation
  • An equal portion, per play, of 10% of Box Office Revenues

10-Minute Plays produced in New Theatre of Ottawa’s 10-Minute Play Festival have travelled to the InspiraTo Festival in Toronto and the Short+Sweet Festival in Sydney Australia.

Evolution’s goal is a public presentation in the fall of 2018 at the Acting Company’s Avalon Studios.
